Sanrio’s official Japanese character page gives Pochacco’s debut year as 1989 and his birthday as 29 February, a leap-day birthday. He is a curious, slightly scatterbrained puppy boy who loves taking detours on his walks; his name comes from “pochapocha”, Japanese for plump.
