What is Wicked?
Wicked is Universal Pictures’ film adaptation, directed by Jon M. Chu, of the stage musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, from Gregory Maguire’s novel. The first film was released in November 2024 and the second, Wicked: For Good, in November 2025.
Who runs Wicked licensing?
Film merchandise comes from Universal Products & Experiences, which named Mattel and LEGO as master partners for the first film in May 2024. For Wicked: For Good, NBCUniversal says more than 400 partners were signed, including over 165 brand partners returning from the first film.
What should buyers check?
Confirm whether the licence covers artwork from the first film, Wicked: For Good or the stage musical; approval for one source should not be assumed for another. Check that the characters you use, such as Elphaba and Glinda, are included, and ask which Universal licensee the product is made under.
