Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) calls itself a leading global media and entertainment company, and its 2025 annual report names franchises such as the DC universe and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. On 6 October 2026 Paramount completed its acquisition of WBD; the combined company is named Skydance and brings together Paramount, Warner Bros., HBO and HBO Max.
How does WBD licensing work?
Consumer products and brand licensing sit in WBD’s Studios segment: the company licenses its images, brands and characters to partners who make products. WBD’s 2024 Modern Slavery Statement says it aims to build its Ethical Sourcing Guidelines into contracts with consumer product licensees, whose manufacturers and subcontractors commit to them or equivalent standards, and that consumer products partners may be asked for social compliance audits.
What should buyers check?
After the October 2026 merger, check which legal entity now signs for the licensor and whether the licence is still in force. Ask for the licence document naming the licensee, the franchise (for example DC or Harry Potter), the product category and the term, and keep a recent social compliance audit of the factory ready, since WBD says it may request one.
