What is Super Mario?
Super Mario is Nintendo’s game series starring Mario. Nintendo’s company history records that it began selling Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) was the first animated film produced in partnership with Nintendo, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie followed in April 2026, produced by Illumination and Nintendo and released worldwide by Universal Pictures.
Who licenses Super Mario products?
Super Mario is Nintendo IP. In August 2025 Nintendo renamed its subsidiary WARPSTAR as Nintendo Stars Inc. and made it responsible for ancillary use of films featuring Nintendo IP: taking film characters and worlds into live events, merchandise and other forms through project development and licensing. The Mario films are co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo.
What should buyers check?
Say whether the design uses game artwork or images from one of the films, and ask which company granted the licence for that artwork. Designs that add Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser or Yoshi need every character covered in the approval. Send the product type, artwork, quantity and destination markets with your enquiry.
