What is Minecraft?
Minecraft is a game from Mojang, the Stockholm-based developer, and launched in 2009. In September 2014 Microsoft announced an agreement to acquire Mojang. A Minecraft Movie, the first big-screen live-action adaptation of the game, was released on 4 April 2025 with Warner Bros. as distributor.
Who licenses Minecraft products?
According to Xbox, Minecraft’s consumer products have grown into a multibillion-dollar business with more than 250 licensees. In October 2026 Xbox announced a new division, XP, whose areas include XBOX PRODUCTS for licensing and merchandise.
What should buyers check?
Say whether the design uses game artwork or images from A Minecraft Movie, which may need separate approval. Because Xbox has just set up a new division for licensing and merchandise, ask which company signed the licence, which categories and countries it covers (check mainland China specifically if relevant) and when it expires. Send the artwork, product type, quantity and destination markets.
