Marvel Studios is the studio behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and one of The Walt Disney Studios’ entertainment studios. Disney’s D23 dates Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU debut as Tony Stark in Iron Man to 2008; Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says that if that film had failed, there would be no MCU as it is known today.
Who licenses Marvel products?
Marvel is owned by The Walt Disney Company. Since 4 October 2026, Disney Consumer Products’ global licensing and publishing businesses have sat under Disney Entertainment – Studios, which Disney says aligns them more closely with its creative content groups. Hasbro’s annual report for 2025 says it holds licences with Disney for the Marvel properties for toys and games.
What should buyers check?
State whether the artwork comes from a Marvel Studios film or series, from comics or from animation, and name every character on the product; do not assume an approval for one source covers another. If the design shows an actor’s likeness, ask whether the approval covers it. For Spider-Man designs based on the films, check the rights position separately.
