From bag sample to production brief: a practical handover checklist
Keep artwork, construction and packaging decisions traceable when moving a custom bag project beyond the first sample.
Name and version the sample
Give each sample a reference and date. Record which model it is based on, what changed and which questions remain open. If a photo is only a visual reference, label it as such rather than treating it as an approved physical sample.
Review in separate passes
Check bag shape and dimensions first, then carrying components, closures, pockets, artwork and packaging. Write an observable comment such as “confirm the agreed handle measurement” rather than “make it better.” Distinguish corrections from new design requests so their cost and timing can be discussed.
Keep approvals together
Maintain a short version log with the accepted specification, selected artwork, sample photographs, packaging instructions and responsible contacts. If a material, trim or supplier changes, ask whether another review is needed. Do not silently carry approval from an earlier version to a changed product.
Reconfirm the quotation basis
Before any production commitment, align the approved version, order quantities by design, facility, documentation, packing and delivery terms with the supplier’s quotation. The checklist does not establish a fixed timeline or guarantee quality; it helps identify what still needs an explicit agreement.
