Who is Steven Rhodes?

Steven Rhodes is a graphic artist and illustrator best known for offbeat reworkings of 1970s and 1980s children’s activity books, with designs such as “Let’s Summon Demons”. His licensing agency says his “Sinister 70s” collection grew from a love of retro nostalgia and pitch-black humour.

Who handles licensing?

Steven Rhodes is listed as a client of Blue Chip Brands, an agency set up in 2003 by Australian licensing executive Anthony Harvey that extends brands into new product categories through licensing. Its case studies include a collection of Steven Rhodes designs delivered to Zara with European apparel specialist OSDM.

What should buyers check?

Name the exact designs you want, because the artwork is the brand. A retail shop page is not a licence: ask the supplier for written approval covering those designs and the product type. If a design combines his art with another film or TV franchise, that rights holder must approve it as well.
